Okay guys, firstly some good news, the step-seq update has been live on kongregate for a little while and its been going down great! Lots of wonderful new compositions taking advantage of all the new features! Here’s a list of what made it into the update :
- Pause button!
- Editable percussion
- Extra tones for instruments
- Editable tempo
- Tweakable reverb and delay effects
- Switch the key and scale of the composition
- New optimized save format
So that’s the good news…. now for something slightly less good… The number 1 requested feature, and my number 1 wanted feature sadly doesn’t look like it’s going to happen any time soon… Adding the “Kongregate Shared Content API” was always something I had planned for Step-seq but it seems there are no plans from Kongregate to add support to Unity games for this feature. So without them exposing the appropriate API’s there’s really no way of me implementing it. However, I’m working on a better way of saving and sharing your compositions with in-game access to an offsite server, and local save slots as well. This will hopefully be in 0.5.
The second most requested feature.. “Export to MP3″ will again be unfortunately not happening any time soon either. This is due to the Unity web player currently not having a stable way of getting audio sample data to write to a file. I’ve spoke with the audio expert at Unity and he has informed me that the functionality for this type of thing is in the pipeline so hopefully we will see some progress on that in upcoming versions of the Unity web player.
Looking to the future for Step-seq. The next 2 planned features are the offsite and local saving in game so people can get there comps somewhere official and not need to use notepad.cc anymore and also I’m looking into letting people extend there comps, by adding more pages and a page playback mode to allow you to record the order in which pages should be played so you can repeat pages, have them play in different orders to create full length tracks.
One More Thing…
